My scooter is kind of loud an all of my neighbors are pretty quiet so felt bad because I broke my old home made silencer that consisted of some copper tubing a couple of clamps and a riding mower silencer.

I went to a cycle supply shop and bought some silencer / muffler packing which is just high temp packed fiberglass.  I didn't see any easy way to open the muffler to put it in, so I cut the glass into small squares and first put it into the exit end because I didn't see any screen inside.  I tested it out and it shot some of it out.  So I decided to try to put it in via the entrance hole where there is a tube with holes in it, they are pretty small and it took a long time to get it packed in decently. 

It ended up being a decent small project.  It doesn't have a high pitched loud 2 stroke noise that it used to have.  The gears are now much louder than the motor is.  I will have to figure out if there is any good way to silence them later.

The motor is a Keyang 33cc 1.7hp.
